Maybe we start with some little history about the Florida Keys. The United States navy built their base in Key West immediately the pirates left in 1822. The Florida Keys comprises of coral islands which stretch over a hundred miles towards Cuba. The major industries here are tourism and fishing. Here are some of the locations you’ll remember for a lifetime when you visit the Florida Keys.

The Hemingway House

The Hemingway house was formerly owned by Ernst Hemmingway in 1931 but now serves as a museum. You’ll get to see the descendants of Ernst’s pet cats right at the house. Are you for sure? Yes. Furthermore, every piece of furniture in the house is exactly what Ernst used back in the 1930s.

John Penekamp State Park

For travelers who love snorkeling and diving, this is a must visit site. Well, even if you don’t know how to do it, having some snorkeling classes will get you started. If you can swim, then you have nothing to worry about. All you need to do at this location is hire the equipment and experience the thrill. It’s exciting to watch different aquatic life while diving in this sanctuary. Did you even know that it’s only in this state park in the United States that you’ll find living coral? Yes, it’s only here. Furthermore, this was America’s first underwater national park. The experience is amazing and you can be sure you’ll want to come back again and again.

Everglades National Park

The Everglades National Park features about one and a half million acres of swamps and serves as a home to about fourteen endangered and rare croc species. If you’ve never had the opportunity of seeing a West Indian manatee or a Florida panther, you better visit this location in the Florida Keys. You’ll also get to explore the diverse ecosystem of the park.

Finally, visiting the Key West in Florida Keys will be one of the most exciting things you’ll ever see. Note that Cuba lies just about ninety miles from the southernmost end of the US. Get there and you’ll have a story to tell your grandchildren if not your kids.
